Calpine Corporatation (NYSE: CPN) said today its subsidiary Calpine Energy Services, L.P., has signed a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to provide 485 megawatts (MW) of power from its Carville Energy Center to Entergy Services, Inc., as agent for Entergy Texas, Inc., beginning in June 2012. The new PPA extends an existing PPA between the two companies. No pricing or other terms were announced.
Entergy Corporation (NYSE: ETR), said Monday that six of its subsidiary operating utilities will join the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator (MISO), a regional transmission organization (RTO) that now supports the delivery of electricity of 13 U.S. states and the Province of Manitoba. Entergy said joining MISO could save customers more than $1 billion in power production costs for the 2013 to 2022 timeframe.
In the wake of the nuclear disaster that occurred in Japan after a major earthquake rocked the island nation last month, the United States has been exploring the safety not only of its nuclear power plants, but also of nuclear energy, on the whole.
