BP plc and Sempra Energy have announced plans to make a combined investment of $1 billion dollars to develop two wind farms.
Sempra Generation, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE), announced that its Mesquite 1 solar farm is now delivering energy to the power grid in Arizona.
Solar Gen 2 LLC, a Greenwich, Conn.-based privately-held solar development firm focused on North American projects, on Monday announced the signing of a 25-year, 150-megawatt power purchase agreement with San Diego Gas & Electric Co. (SDG&E), a unit of Sempra Energy.
The Hawaii Public Utilities Commission said June 15 it had approved a 20-year contract for Maui Electric Company to purchase 21 megawatts (MW) of wind power from Sempra Generation’s Auwahi Wind project on the Ulupalakua Ranch in southeastern Maui. The approval also included a determination that Maui Electric could build an above-ground transmission connection to its main local grid line.
Mexico, one of the leading suppliers of oil to the United States, has increasingly embraced alternative energy in the face of dwindling crude output, infrastructure and investment.
San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E) said Tuesday it has signed a 20-year contract for up to 156 megawatts (MW) from the first phase of Sempra Generation’s Energía Sierra Juárez wind project in Baja California, Mexico. Both SDG&E and Sempra Generation are subsidiaries of Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE).
Panelists at an Urban Land Institute meeting yesterday in San Diego, Calif. floated the idea of a bi-national grid between the U.S and Mexico that would allow both nations to collaboratively manage their energy needs and guarantee increased use of renewable energy sources.
