While electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more mainstream, the issue of where, when and how to recharge is still problematic for some existing and potential EV consumers.  But that may soon change. 

That new car or truck you’ve been eyeballing for the last month or so has a price tag above and beyond the sticker in the window, and we’re not talking about taxes, licenses and fees.

Although electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids provide numerous benefits compared to traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, they also pose potential risks to the occupants and emergency responders in case of accidents including electrical shock and fire.  

Not only are electric vehicles better for the environment than gas-guzzling cars, EVs can be just as safe as well.  The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently performed the first crash test evaluations on plug-in electric cars.

Late last week, the Nissan LEAF was named the 2011 World Car of the Year at the New York International Auto Show making it the first electric vehicle to take home the prize.

The Green Car Journal recently named its 2011 Green Car of the Year (GCOY) award to General Motors 2011 Chevrolet Volt.

Shares of the world’s leading lithium producing companies are going gangbusters. Although lithium is used in a wide range of products, one likely explanation is that investors want exposure to the mineral that is critical to the batteries in the first mass-market electric vehicle’s (EVs).

General Motors Co. (GM) (NYSE: GM) recently announced it will begin testing a fleet of electric vehicles next month in South Korea.
