While the worldwide economic crisis has been bad for many environmental initiatives – as companies and consumers scale back their purchases of solar panels and wind turbines – it turns out to be a blessing in disguise for greenhouse gas emissions.

An international research team has shown that replacing gasoline with second-generation biofuels derived from processed waste could reduce global emissions by as much as 80%.

 

Manitoba is set to become the first province in Canada to mandate the use of biodiesel.

 

Over 500 top executives from solar, wind, electric car, geothermal, and utilities companies have called for a binding agreement to cut carbon emissions to be made at the Copenhagen Conference in December.
