When you mention hydropower, most people think of huge dams--or maybe buoys floating in the ocean—but, UK-based Checkmate Seaenergy has developed an entirely new hydropower device shaped like a long tube and aptly named the Anaconda.

The September issue of the McKinsey Quarterly includes a report which looks at the technologies that are jostling for control in the ever-growing solar market.

 

Renewable and clean tech businesses whose products are only in the early stages of development have been hit hardest by the recession, as wary venture capitalists (VCs) and private equity (PE) investors take fewer risks on these start-ups. 
 

Anyone who has ever been pummeled by a wave at the beach understands the immense power released by ocean waves.  Although difficult to capture, wave power might be one of our best investments in a carbon-free world.
