Europe geothermal power
Iceland's state-run energy company, Landsvirkjun, is considering manufacturing the world's longest sub-sea electric cable so it can bring its abundance of geothermal energy to interested parties in Europe.
United States based global market research firm, MarketsandMarkets (M&M) has released a report predicting the global geothermal energy market direct use and power generation capacity will reach 120,300 MW by 2015.
Enel Green Power (EGP) (Milan: EGPW.MI), the largest renewable energy company in Italy, has added 20-megawatts of geothermal capacity to its portfolio with the start of operations of a new unit at a geothermal facility in central Italy.
The European Union's long-term renewable energy strategy is yet another example which shows the geothermal industry, despite receiving less media attention, and even less funding than the solar, wind, and biofuel industries, continues to produce positive results.
