First Wind

One company appears to be dominating Maine's growing wind sector -- First Wind.  The company recently completed construction financing for its latest project, the 34-megawatt Bull Hill Wind farm in Hancock.

First Wind has been approved by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to expand its wind energy generation capacity in the Pine Tree State.

More wind energy has officially come to life in the United States.  Both Constellation Energy (NYSE: CEG) and First Wind held events commemorating the completion of respective utility-scale wind power installations in Maine and Maryland.

Utility-scale wind power developer First Wind announced that phase II (Milford II) of the Milford Wind Corridor wind farm is online and feeding energy into the power grid.

Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE: DUK) said today it has chosen a 36 megawatt (MW) battery system developed by Xtreme Power Inc. to store and manage power generated at Duke’s 153 MW Notrees Windpower Project in west Texas. The company said the storage system will be one of the largest of its kind in the world and will be operating by late 2012.
