Hywind

On Sept. 8, seven miles from Norway’s southwestern coast, near the island of Karmoey, in water 721 feet deep, Norwegian energy giant StatoilHydro (NYSE:STO) inaugurated the world’s first deepwater, full-scale floating wind turbine called Hywind.

Last week’s Scholars and Rogues Weekly Carboholic brought us news of the latest in offshore wind; the deep water wind turbine. By locating the wind turbines in deeper water, several offshore wind obstacles are avoided.
