Another week has come and gone.  And, what a week it was.  Some may say renewable energies and technologies are expensive, insignificant, or a waste of money.  However, no one can ever claim renewable energies are not exciting.  Once again this week was littered with unusual, spectacular, wildly creative, and downright crazy inventions and ideas for generating clean energy.&

India still plans to go ahead with its extremely ambitious plan to increase its solar capacity from zero to 20 GW by 2020.  However, there is a new wrinkle in the plan.

 

In India, the government has instituted new legislation which does not allow commercial vehicles over 15 years of age to operate in the city of Kolkata (formerly Calcutta).

 

Emami Biotech, a subsidiary of Emami Group (BOM:531162), will be launching a massive biofuel project in Ethiopia.

 

The Reva is an electric, three door hatchback that can accommodate two adults in the front and two children in the rear.  This electric car has a range of 50 miles (80 kilometers) after an 8 hour charge and a top speed of 50 miles per hour.

Green information technology (IT) appears to be an industry that is about to explode.

 

Major Indian software company, Wipro (NYSE:WIT) joins a long list of IT companies who are developing products that will help businesses and home track and cut their energy use.
