DuPont/Danisco said Wednesday it has chosen Iowa over Nebraska in which to build a cellulosic ethanol plant by 2013. The company said the plant would be in Story County or Webster County, but has not released production objectives or other details.

Siemens AG (NYSE: SI), the largest company in the EnergyBoom Clean 100 Index (E•B Clean 100) and the world’s leading provider of offshore wind turbines, says the largest onshore turbine order in its history for three wind farms in Iowa will be filled from turbines produced at its two new U.S. factories.

Fulfilling part of the Obama Administration's early commitment to create the first national high speed rail system, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced a US$2.4 billion investment in 54 high speed rail projects in 23 states.

The U.S. Departments of Energy (DOE) and Agriculture (USDA) have jointly announced up to US$33 million in funding for research and development of technologies and processes to produce biofuels, bioenergy and high-value biobased products, subject to annual appropriations.

The Obama administration has dispensed more of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's money.  This time $106 million USD was given for energy efficiency projects in nine states.

 

According to the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) the United States wind power industry showed both positives and also negatives in the second quarter of 2009.

 

Green Plains Renewable Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ:GPRE) has completed its purchase of two ethanol plants in Nebraska.  This acquisition makes Green Plains the fourth largest ethanol producer in the United States.
