offshore wind development
U.S. Department of Interior announced its "Smart from the Start" offshore wind energy initiative has cleared an environmental review and is moving forward.
Earlier this week U.S. energy giant NRG Energy Inc. said it is putting its entire offshore wind development "on hold" and closing the offices of its subsidiary Bluewater Wind.
In Britain, the wind industry and the government have worked out a deal to eliminate the Ministry of Defence's objections to the development of five offshore wind farms.
The five wind farms, with an estimated 3-gigawatts of power capacity, are proposed for construction off the east coast of England in the Great Wash.
