second-generation biofuels

Completing its latest round of funding, Primus Green Energy, Inc., a developer of a drop-in renewable gasoline, has received another $12 million from its primary investor, IC Green Energy, Ltd.

In Britain, a new study has been commissioned to assess the ethics behind biofuel production.

The UK Nuffield Council on Bioethics (NCB) is asking for anyone and everyone's view on biofuels--everything from corn-based ethanol to algae derived biofuel--in order to advise the British government on a way to develop biofuels without taking food from the poor.

An international research team has shown that replacing gasoline with second-generation biofuels derived from processed waste could reduce global emissions by as much as 80%.
