On the same day that marked the sale of the one-millionth Prius hybrid in the United States, Japanese automaker, Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE: TM) formed a strategic partnership with U.S-based software developer Microsoft Corp.

Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE: TM) has announced it has sold it one millionth Toyota Prius in the United States.

In October, sales of hybrid vehicles increased nearly 10% in the United States.

The increased consumer demand for hybrid automobiles came in a month which saw car sales drop 1%.  Hybrids now make up 2.55% of all car sales per month -- roughly 25,000 sales per month.

Honda (NYSE: HMC) announced that it will be selling its gasoline-electric version of the Fit for US$19,310 making it the most inexpensive domestic car of its kind.

Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM) has announced it will offer a plug-in electric version of its Prius hybrid by 2012. The company also stated it could have two all-electric vehicles on the market within the same time frame.

The first algae fueled hybrid "Algaeus" (a Toyota Prius) will be making its way across the country with a number of other green vehicles.

2009 has been an atrocious year for car sales, including hybrids, in America.  However, that may be changing, for hybrids at least.  In May, hybrid sales rose 18.2% from April's totals.
