U.S. offshore wind

U.S. Senator John Kerry, along with all ten of Massachusetts' democratic members of Congress have sent a letter to the Secretary of Energy, Steven Chu, urging him to speed up the approval process of Cape Wind's federal loan guarantee.

Deepwater Wind has recently proposed an off-shore 1,000 MW wind farm that would connect to the power grids of both New England and New York.

The last regulatory hurdle for the start of construction of the first U.S. offshore wind project was overcome today with the approval by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) of the 15-year Power Purchase Agreement with National Grid to buy half of Cape Wind's energy, capacity and renewable energy credits.

It has taken eight years to bring the vision and ideas to fruition but today marks another milestone in the development of the Cape Wind offshore wind farm.
