Despite selling a record number of Chevy Volts in August, General Motors is losing money on its plug-in electric hybrid, and a lot of money at that.

General Motors (GM) (NYSE: GM) has launched a new program that will harness the energy of the sun to help power its electric vehicles.

New reports suggest that increased use of electric cars may in some areas of the US actually increase carbon emissions. Just when you thought we were on to something that might actually help!

The Reva is an electric, three door hatchback that can accommodate two adults in the front and two children in the rear.  This electric car has a range of 50 miles (80 kilometers) after an 8 hour charge and a top speed of 50 miles per hour.

In his 2003 State of the Union address, George Bush said “that the first car driven by a child born today could be powered by hydrogen, and pollution-free.” Electric vehicle advocate Paul Scott replied that if battery electric technology had been fully exploited for transportation, the first car driven by a child born during the Civil war would have been powered by a battery.
