The world’s largest retailer of home furnishing had a busy year last year, and not just in retails sales. IKEA just released its 2010 Sustainability Report highlighting its significant achievements in both social and environmental responsibility and sustainability.
Land reclamation by developers of the Canadian oil sands and environmental regulation by the Alberta and Canadian governments are not keeping pace with the rapid rate of land disturbance and project development, according to an expert panel commissioned by the Royal Society of Canada.
However, the panel also found that oil sands production has limited impact on the local environment and people.
The U.S. state of Florida has sued the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for enacting stricter water standards on the state after an agreement between the two had been reached several years ago.
Desalination is big business. Worldwide, thirteen thousand plants currently produce more than 12 billion gallons of purified water a day.
