The world’s largest retailer of home furnishing had a busy year last year, and not just in retails sales. IKEA just released its 2010 Sustainability Report highlighting its significant achievements in both social and environmental responsibility and sustainability.

Land reclamation by developers of the Canadian oil sands and environmental regulation by the Alberta and Canadian governments are not keeping pace with the rapid rate of land disturbance and project development, according to an expert panel commissioned by the Royal Society of Canada.

However, the panel also found that oil sands production has limited impact on the local environment and people.

In a study to be outlined in the November issue of Scientific American, Stanford University Professor Mark Z. Jacobson and University of California-Davis researcher Mark Delucchi layout numbers and a scheme to power the world on 100% clean and renewable energy.
