Solazyme, Inc. (NASDAQSZYM), a biofuels company which also makes dietary supplements and skin care products, opened for trading today at $18 per share and jumped to more than $21 by mid-day. The company completed its initial public offering of 10,975,000 shares Thursday.

Agricultural biotechnology company Ceres, Inc., based in Thousand Oaks, California, filed an Initial Public Offering prospectus with the U.S. regulators Monday planning to raise up to $100 million and to list on NASDAQ under the symbol CERE.

Kior, Inc., which began construction in Q1 2011 on a $190-million commercial-scale plant to convert Southern Yellow Pine chips into renewable crude oil and diesel, has filed a $100 milion Initial Public Offering with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Kior, based in Pasadena, Texas, is 74.5% owned by Silicon Valley venture capital firm Khosla Ventures. 

Shares of light-emitting diode (LED) lighting manufacturer/marketer Lighting Science Group Corp. (OTC BB: LSCG.OB) are trading up slightly today after falling 12 percent in the five days (down 5.6 percent yesterday) since it announced February 10 that it had filed an initial public offering (IPO) preliminary prospectus for a $150 million public equity financing. The company’s shares will trade on NASDAQ, but pricing or timing for the IPO were not disclosed.
