power utilities

Allentown, Pennsylvania-based power utility PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL) said Tuesday it has completed the permanent financing related to its $6.6 billion acquisition of the former Central Networks electricity distribution companies in the United Kingdom. The acquired companies are operated by PPL's Western Power Distribution under the names WPD East Midlands and WPD West Midlands.

Shares of power demand response managers EnerNOC, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENOC) (market cap $588 million) and Comverge, Inc. (NASDAQ: COMV) (market cap $106 million) were trading up 27% and 7% respectively at midday on news released Friday by grid operator PJM Interconnection that demand response services would be an important part of its capacity in the June 2014 through May 2015 period.

Entergy Corporation (NYSE: ETR), said Monday that six of its subsidiary operating utilities will join the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator (MISO), a regional transmission organization (RTO) that now supports the delivery of electricity of 13 U.S. states and the Province of Manitoba. Entergy said joining MISO could save customers more than $1 billion in power production costs for the 2013 to 2022 timeframe.
