Enbridge Ignored Warnings in Pipeline Oil Spill

Paul Sancya/Associated Press

According to a report  from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, Enbridge staff ignored alarms for 17 hours after the pipeline ruptured and poured a massive amounts of oil (equivalent to 20,000 barrels) into the Kalamazoo River.

The report explains how Enbridge staff disagreed whether the pipeline had actually ruptured across workers on multiple shifts. It was only when a worker on site of the oil spill alerted them that it was in fact a real spill, that they shut it down. The investigation continues.
