EPA Announces 2010 Green Power Leadership Award Winners

The U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named 18 companies that will receive Green Power Partner Leadership Awards.

The honorary award is given to companies which are taking voluntary steps in advancing the green power market by using renewable and clean energy and reducing greenhouse and gas emissions.  According to the press release, by using green power, the awarded companies are responsible for reducing the carbon footprint equivalent to the emissions of more than 700,000 vehicles.

Whole Foods Market (NASDAQ:WFMI), Park City, Utah, Chicago Public Schools and Phoenix Press, Inc are among the 18 to be presented an award in one of four categories: Green Power Partners of the Year, Green Power Communities of the Year, Green Power Purchasing and On-site Generation.

"By using green power, these winners are leading the way toward cleaner air and a healthier environment while helping advance the market for renewable energy.”  said Gina McCarthy, assistant administrator for EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation.
