Michigan Oil Spill: Two-Thirds of Leaked Oil Has Been Recovered According to Enbridge

Enbridge Inc. (NYSE:ENB) says it has re-captured two-thirds of the crude oil which spilled out from its oil pipeline and into Michigan waterways.

According to the company, cleanup efforts have been able to collect 48,000 barrels of oil and water.  As a result Enbridge estimates that 13,000 of the 19,500 barrels of leaked oil have been corralled.

These barrels will be sent to Enbridge processing plant in Indiana where the oil will be separated.  So far 16,000 barrels of the oily water has been sent to the plant.

Enbridge has yet to repair the busted pipeline, because the area surrounding the ruptured section is currently flooded.  Even after the pipe is repaired Enbridge may not be able to immediately restart operations on the 293-mile transport system, as the U.S. Department of Transportation has set out a series of requirements Enbridge must meet before oil can begin to travel thorugh the pipeline again.
