Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F [3]) announced which U.S. markets will be the first to sell its first all-electric passenger vehicle the Focus Electric [4].

With zero carbon emissions and a targeted 100 mile drive range on a full charge, the Focus Electric will compete with Nissan Leaf [5]and the Chevy Volt [6] when it is hits the U.S. late 2011.

Based on existing hybrid purchase trends, utility company collaboration and local government commitment to electrification, Ford has chosen [7] the following U.S. cities as the initial markets for the Focus Electric:

• Atlanta, Georgia
• Austin and Houston, Texas
• Boston, Massachusetts
• Chicago, Illinois
• Denver, Colorado
• Detroit, Michigan
• Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego, California
• New York City, New York
• Orlando, Florida
• Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona
• Portland, Oregon
• Raleigh Durham, North Carolina
• Richmond, Virginia
• Seattle, Washington
• Washington, D.C.

"This is the first step in rolling out the Focus Electric. As the country continues to build up its electric vehicle infrastructure and demand for the Focus Electric grows, Ford will continue to evaluate additional markets and consider making this vehicle available in more cities across the country," said Mark Fields, President of the Americas, Ford Motor Company.
