Green Mountain Energy Offers Texas Homeowners a Solar Solution

On its website a counter clips by in increments of 50 pounds of carbon per second, each time adding to the 11 billion CO2 emissions Green Mountain Energy Company has claimed its customers have prevented since the company's 1997 inception.

2011 has already been a banner year for the Texas-based company. In January, the clean energy provider was awarded a contract to provide New York City's Empire State Building with 55 million kilowatt hours of wind energy a year (100% of its electricity needs) in the form of Renewable Energy Certificates.

In an effort to continue to grow its residential market, Green Mountain Energy, a NRG Energy (NYSE: NRG) company, launched the Renewable Rewards Solar Lease program. The program offers Texas homeowners a "hassle-free" and affordable option to implement a solar array on their home.

In addition to providing the installation, maintenance and support of the solar system, Green Mountain Energy will purchase any excess energy the system generates. The company claims it can construct the installation to meet customers financial requirements. The 20-year lease is fully transferable and can be pre-paid.

Avoiding the high upfront costs Green Mountain Energy is confident its new program will spur Texans to continue to grow the carbon offset counter.

“We help Green Mountain customers make financing, installation, service, support and maintenance of their solar arrays as easy as can be. It’s a tangible and hassle-free way for Texas homeowners to support renewable energy and inspire more solar adoption in their communities,” said Paul Markovich, president, Residential Services, Green Mountain Energy Company.
