Toys "R" Us Going Solar

World leading toy retailer Toys "R" Us Inc. announced that construction has begun on a rooftop solar power system at its distribution center in Flanders, NJ.  When complete, it will be North America's largest rooftop solar array.

The Flanders facility is 1.5 million square feet big and is the toy giant's largest distribution center in the United States. The solar system will employ 37,000 UNI-SOLAR photovoltaic solar panels which will cover nearly 70% of the 32 acre rooftop. When construction is finished this summer, the solar panels will combine to generate 5.38 MW of electricity; the equivalent of 72% of the facility's electrical needs.

Constellation Energy Group Inc. (NYSE: CEG) will build, own, operate and maintain the solar power system which it will sell to Toys "R" Us through a 20-year power purchase agreement.

"The unprecedented scope of this project furthers our already strong commitment to sustainability in our operations," said Jerry Storch, Chairman and CEO, Toys "R" Us, Inc.

"New Jersey's leadership in providing renewable, clean energy opportunities for companies has helped pave the way for an installation of this size and underscores the state as a champion for solar energy growth across North America."
