One Million Electric Vehicles in China by 2020

With the largest auto market in the world resulting in car exhaust emissions responsible for 70 percent of the air pollution in its major cities, China is taking big steps to promote domestic production and sale of electric vehicles.
Adding to the US$1.2 billion that has been committed this year, the Chinese government is expected to roll out a plan to spend upwards of $US15 billion over the next 10 years in subsidies to the green vehicle industry. China is already offering rebates to consumers purchasing electric and hybrid vehicles and is subsidizing and promoting the use of clean energy vehicles for public transportation.
By taking steps like these, the Chinese state media has reported the country is expected to produce one million electric vehicles by 2020.
