Duke Energy to Add its Tenth U.S. Wind Farm

Duke Energy Renewables, a division of United States energy giant Duke Energy Corp. (NYSE: DUK), announced that it will add the tenth wind farm to its wind energy portfolio.

The company has agreed to purchase the Shirley Windpower Project from CH Energy Group Inc. (NYSE: CHG), a subsidiary of the Central Hudson Enterprises Corporation.

The 20 MW wind farm located in Glenmore, Wisconsin came online in December 2010. The electricity generated from the Shirley Windpower Project is being sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement to Wisconsin Public Service Corporation.

The acquisition will bring Duke Energy Renewables' wind generating capacity to just over 1,000 MW, sourced from 10 wind farms across five states. These numbers do not include the 168 MW Kanas-based wind farm the company is slated to begin construction on in the fall.

"Our strategic acquisition of the Shirley Windpower Project not only helps us reach the 1,000-megawatt milestone, it serves as a springboard for growth in a new region of the United States,” said Greg Wolf, president of Duke Energy Renewables.
