Right now we’re seeing a glut of solar panels in the market largely due to an increase in Chinese manufacturers being able to produce panels a lot faster and cheaper than their more established European counterparts thanks to a flood of local Chinese investment in the industry.

The recent uptake of solar and wind energy across South Australia has forced the State’s pricing regulator to reassess wholesale electricity costs, recommending an 8.1% cut to power bills.

In what is being described as symptomatic of the “cutthroat” world of solar energy, San Jose-based SunPower Corp. (Nasdaq: SPWRA) sued SolarCity on Monday, Feb. 13, for reportedly accepting what it knew were stolen documents.

According to a news release from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), Office of Installations and the Environment, the agency’s enormous landholdings in the Mojave and Colorado deserts of California, across four military installations, hold enough suitable space to generate 7,000 megawatts (MW) of solar energy.
