LG has joined the race of consumer electronics companies vying to be the most sustainable in the world – a growing list that includes Panasonic, Samsung and Toshiba.

Honda has just announced that 10 of its 14 manufacturing plants in North America are operating with zero-waste-to-landfill as part of its “Green Factory” initiative in North America. 

Drinking 7Up in Canada is about to get more refreshing. Parent company, PepsiCo (NYSE: PEP) just announced new packaging plans for the beverage that will hit the shelves this August.

The North American division of Volvo Trucks (Stockholm: VOLV-B.ST) has reached a milestone which saw the company reduce energy consumption at its Virginia plant by 30% in response to a challenge issued by the U.S. Department of Energy in 2009.

Intel (Nasdaq: INTC), which became the largest purchaser of green power in the United States in the US in 2008 has publicly announced that it will seek to cover 85% of it’s US energy usage with renewable energy purchases.

Marks & Spencer, one of the leading UK retailers, recently announced that it is doubling the amount of clean energy that its purchasing from small independent producers. This increase means Marks & Spencer will generate enough renewable energy to satisfy the electricity used by 100 M&S Simply Food Stores.

The United States Navy has announced a partnership with the University of California, Davis.  Through the deal, the University will advise the Navy on how to reduce the energy consumption on its bases by using more energy efficient technologies and increasing consumption of renewable energy.
